Meet Jim
Hi, here’s a bit about me. I have been teaching guitar since 2002 and went full-time soon after finishing a degree in Media Studies at Chichester University.
In addition to private lessons, in February 2007 I began teaching guitar with the West Sussex Music Service in local schools. I’m a great believer in ‘starting early’, having begun learning guitar myself at the age of 8 (but it’s not too late if you’re 80!). My first public performance shortly followed, as a terrified 10 yr old at my local church, but I survived!.
I have since gained a vast amount of musical experience, continuously recording, writing and performing in this country and beyond, in stadiums, pubs, churches, weddings, iconic music venues and on top of mountains (…it’s true), with styles ranging from acoustic pop, funk, indie, rock and metal, playing a mixture of electric, acoustic, bass and mandolin.
Nowadays I play a lot in an acclaimed function band named The Deloreans, playing at weddings/parties all over the country, and Bright City and worship movement from St Peters’, Brighton.
I am also a published songwriter, releasing songs with Integrity Music and Push Music, and I occasionally do session work on album recordings (when not teaching or gigging!).
My aim is to pass on to my pupils as much of the knowledge and experience that I have gained as possible, as part of the their musical development and to improve their confidence in performing.
Away from guitar teaching I also enjoy working with media such as making videos, photography and website design (like this one!). This actually goes some way to helping keep lesson prices down, as I don’t have to pay someone to do all my marketing and website making!
